Eisstock(schiessen) (=ice stick shooting) is an easy but challenging team game that is played either on ice in winter or on tarmac during the summer. The game comes originally from the Bavarian Alps, where it’s played almost in every village.
The reason for it’s popularity lays probably in the nature of the game: it doesn’t require physical efforts and suits therefore for everyone but it takes skill and team work to win the game – so it’s a good choice for an outdoor activity for groups.
You play Eisstock simply with an ice stick that you throw on the course and with a small goal that you are supposed to aim at. Even the best of the shots in the beginning of the game doesn’t guarantee the win for your team.
The game becomes even more interesting when the players after you are moving the goal or other ice sticks on the course. In Saariselkä we play on the outdoor ice rink.
